Get ready for two days of hacking, learning, networking, and celebrating!!! It's all going down June 3-4 at Google NYC. Let's talk about accessibility and how we can use software (apps) and hardware (things) to improve the quality of life for the nearly 20% of Americans who live with disability!
In the hackathon, you'll work on a project of your choice in the area of accessibility. You can take an existing application or IoT product and make it more accessible, design a new application to solve a problem affecting people with disabilities, or come up with your own idea! We will have Raspberry Pi Android Thing kits and Google Homes on-site for teams to use.
Android Things makes developing connected embedded devices easy by providing the same Android development tools, best-in-class Android framework, and Google APIs that make developers successful on mobile. Android Things extends the core Android framework with additional APIs provided by the Things Support Library. These APIs allow apps to integrate with new types of hardware not found on mobile devices.
Smart phones, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are being used to enhance the quality of life for people, expand access to the Internet, and enhance their participation in the Internet governance ecosystem.
Internet-connected devices offer a similar potential to transform quality of life for many people, particularly for persons with disabilities and elderly.
